USB Printer Won't Install!

My friend has an HP USB printer (doesn't have a parrallel connectivity). Both USB ports work, tested with different products. Downloaded the latest drivers from HP, but its a no go! She's running windowsME if that makes a difference, dont' want to upgrade all the way to XP just to get the USB to work.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Are you following the install directions EXACTLLY?

Most HP printers require the driver to be installed BEFORE you even plug the printer in. The driver installer should actually inform you of this when you install.

Run the installer, don't plug in the printer until it tells you to.

Go into start, settings, printers, properties, details. Check your port. HP installs an hp usb port. Make sure this is selected, not some other such as lpt1.

again make sure if you installed the usb cord before the drivers remove the drivers reboot check to make sure that there is no printer listed and that the usb doesn't list hp printer

then install the software and when it tells you install the usb cable
it should work then

the nice thing about xp is hp drivers are preloaded for my 932c

Yeah if you do what copyfixer said to do you should make sure that it has selected port USB001 if it isn't selected see if you can find and select it in the list otherwise try what the others have mentioned above.
