Looking for drivers for a Lexmark z73 for a friend so it can be shared over a peer to peer, just the printer of course, not the scanner or copier. It's installed on an xp box and the other one is a win98 one, they're hooked up through an smc router to share the cable modem. I can't use the drivers that came with it since the print monitor installs and can't see the printer attached to it so I emailed lexmark to see if they had a plain print driver dor it. This is their response "The Windows operating system cannot usb print share. This is a restriction of the operating system and not the printer." Does that sound right? Sounds like a crock to me. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am sharing a Canon S500 connected via USB to a Windows 2000 box and I can share it with the 5 other PCs I have at home. So, that shoots down Lexmark's response. If you go through Win98's network printer installation and after you find the printer on the network specify the directory for the printer drivers on the CD. This should work OK without any problems. Your other option is to install the Win98 drivers on the XP machine and when you go to setup the printer over the network the Win98 machine will pull the Win98 drivers off the XP machine.

I've installed it by browsing to the files on the disk but it always grabs the monitor software, you know, the one that lets you know when the cartridges are low. When I installed the printer in xp I tried to load the 98 drivers as well but it never could find them on the disk even though I knew right where they were it wouldn't recognize them. PITA

On my one Win98 box at home the monitor software also installed with the standard drivers. The monitor software works fine with my Canon printer over the network. At least it does not impede my printing over the network.
