im using a homebuilt system with an asus p4p800 mobo... 4 onboard USB ports. my keyboard uses one of them, but the other three are open. im trying to install an epson stylus photo 2200 printer via USB, but when i plug the USB cable into the computer, the system hangs. (neither the mouse nor the keyboard responds to input.) any ideas? do i need to update drivers for the mobo? i seem to remember looking around for the mobo drivers a while back and being unable to find anything...

Did you try installing the software for the printer before attaching it? Some USB devices require that. You could also have a bad cable or a dead printer. Has it ever worked?

the install process for the printer requires that it be turned on and connected when you run setup. which is "okay", because i can do that by plugging the cable into the PC when it's turned off. it boots up just fine with the cable connected... but then when i run setup it cant detect the printer, and neither does the Windows printer wizard.

and yes, the printer has worked before, on another PC in the office... (nforce mobo) but that one isn't going to be used any longer.
