USB Printer Not Printing

My friend has a computer with windowsME, and recently attempted to hook up her USB printer but it didn't work. She installed the software, but it still didn't print or anything. The ports work because I tested it with other devices. What should I do to try and get it to work with her printer?

I also got the latest drivers from HP
 
I had hell trying to get my HP printer working in WinME. I haven't used ME in a while and I don't remember what I did to get it working. I think you have to start the software install and at some point in the install it will ask for you to plug in the printer. If you plug the printer in before starting the install, it would fail. Also, I think it tries to install LPT port drivers as default and you have to manually steer it to the USB drivers. After a failed install attempt, I had to go back in the device manager and remove the printer before trying again. It's been too long ago to remember. I just remember it sucked and was not user friendly at all. I wish I could be more helpful.
