USB powered fan (or adapter)

this might be general hardware, but it's more of a conceptual question. a friend is putting a computer in an enclosed space and wants to have a fan at the back to ventilate (it's outside of the case) i suggested just taking one of the molex connectors and making a grommet and running it outside the case to a fan, but he said he thought he had seen some kind of USB power adapter that he thought would work. i have never seen or heard of such a thing. does it exist? is he full of crap?

Saw one USB powered desktop fan at fry's that's for cooling yourself. It's retangular and stands upright with a 80mm fan built-in.
