USB post silicon validation

Hi all. I am an embedded systems engineer and our company is planning for a USB 3.0 protocol compliance suite/ Post silicon validation suite.Actually i have worked previously with post silicon validation of low speed peripherals like I2C developing bare metal(without any OS) test cases,running on a simple microcontroller.I am not sure whether i can do the same with USB,as i think the protocol by itself is complex.Does it require to develop test cases using OS? What are the options for software platforms for such a scenario? Can anyone shed light on this ?

Well, I'd start with understanding how the USB Compliance program (http://www.usb.org/developers/compliance/) works. I'd grab an off-the-shelf USB 3.0 device, and take it through the compliance program.

At that point, you'll know enough to ask good questions.
