I've heard of this problem, but I thought there was a hotfix that comes with the windows updates that solves the USB 2.0 WinXP SP1 problem. Has anyone seen this and solved it? I can't seem to get it going. I found a couple articles on the Microsoft Knowledge Base that were quasi-helpful, but not really. Could someone please throw me a clue? I'm drowning.

Did you try reinstalling your nForce chipset drivers (assuming this is the A7N8X rig we are talking about)?

whoops, my bad, I forgot to mention it's for a slick new Dell laptop. Well, sorta new (old enough to not have SP1 pre-installed).

Hmm, well, I would look for chipset drivers on Dell's website. Also, make sure all post-SP1 updates have been applied as well.

i have seen this and i fixed it by having the driver cd in the drive go to start right click my computer and choose manage then go to device manager
if the usb is yellow then update driver and that will fix it as long as the drivers are available.

You should be able to go to the dell support website and download the newest drivers. If you told us what model you were using, we might be able to point you in the right direction. It's almost definitely using some sort of Intel motherboard chipset.

Ok, I'm going to give it another shot tonight. Here's my plan, let me know if you guys have any other good suggestions:

[*]I'll bring a copy of SiSoft Sandra so I can identify the mobo & chipset
[*]I'll look at the Dell website again to see if I can download some different USB drivers
[*]If Dell has nothing for me, I'll search for mobo-specific USB drivers

I think that's a good plan. It really seems to be a USB driver issue, and if you can get the latest drivers, it should take care of whatever the problem is.

If that doesnt work, how about calling dell, or posting in dell's own forums. It's a laptop, no such thing as "mobo specific" anything, its more "laptop specific".
