Just changed MoBo and CPU from ABIT BH-6(CEL450) to ASUS CUSL2 (no audio) WIN98. Using Asus V7700 Deluxe, P3 866 (no OC), 384 RAM (seems to make do diff.). I cannot get USB (Microsoft Itellimouse Explorer, worked before on BH-6 )mouse to work. Under sys props, if I remove all USB stuff, the mouse works during a reboot UNTIL WIN98 installs "Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universial Host Controller - 2442 (and "2444") and (2) USB Root Hub(s). Only way I can get mouse to work is thru PS2 Port. If I shut down with it connected to USB port it will not shut down and mouse (IR) light flashes indefinintely.

Mommie!:(

Disable Legacy USB support in the BIOS.

It was, I checked. Still in device manager the Universal serial bus controller has:
Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442
Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444
(!)USB Root Hub (has the little yellow (!) exclamation point in front of it)
(!)USB Root Hub (has the little yellow (!) exclamation point in front of it)

Driver File Details for the first 2 is:

C:\WIN98\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\uhcd.sys
C:\WIN98\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD (NTKERN.vxd)
C:\WIN98\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\USBHUB.sys
C:\WIN98\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\USBD.SYS

Driver File Details for the last 2 is:

C:\WIN98\SYSTEM\DRIVERS\usbhub.sys
C:\WIN98\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD (NTKERN.vxd)

Again, if I remove all this stuff, on the first reboot before WIN98 reinstalls these drivers my MS intelli mouse will MOVE! But WIN98 installs that stuff upon reboot and then the USB mouse does not work anymore. I've been working on this for 2 weeks! Jeez!

Yeah, I installed the intel drivers from the CD that came with the MoBo. I think those are the first two listed in the USB controller under device manager (Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM ........) Again it's the last two (USB Root Hub) that have the yellow exclamation point by them.

Damn, no other takers on this? This should be a fairly popular config. Are the Asus/Intel Drivers too old? I will try to find the newest ones I can. Would WIN98 vs WIN98SE make a diff?

Thanks

Try removing any sound, network and/or modems you have installed. Reload the Intel inf files. Restart and see how it goes. I don't think 98 or 98SE makes any difference. Maybe if you gave us a list of what card is in what slot we could be more helpful. A complete list of hardware irq's might help too. On my CUSL2-C's with98SE, I always put the sound card in slot 6. In bios setup>advanced>pci config, assign slot 6 to use irq 5. In PCI/PNP resource exclusion list, set irq 5 reserved to yes. If using a SBlive, in device manager>Creative misc devices> SB16 emulation>properties> check the box that allows lpt interrupt sharing>apply>restart. Good luck.

Well, nothing seemed to get those USB ports working. I cleaned off the HDD and started from a fresh OS. Everything works now. USB ports worked the first time. When I did a Format of the C drive though it did find some bad sectors or something. Plus the system had been acting a little weird, some sounds had stopped working, Explorer crashed at least once a day. She seems pretty stable so far, knock on wood.

Thanks for all the ideas and help.:D
