USB ports dying

Recently, I've noticed some usb ports aren't working. Months ago it was intermittent but at the moment, roughly half of the ports no longer work properly, including the 2 front panel ones on the case. Sometimes when I boot up, my mouse and/or keyboard doesn't work and I'd need to move those usb plugs to other ports. Is my motherboard dying or is there something else I should look into to fix this?

When that happens, it is often due to insufficient voltage being applied to those ports. The easy fix that works for me is to use a powered USB hub. That removes that load from your mobo and PSU. At present I have 8 devices handily supported by a 13-port powered hub. It connects to the mobo for data only - no pwer.

Okay plot thickens. Got a 7-port Anker powered usb 3.0 hub. Some of my USB ports are STILL dead. (at least 2 of the 2.0s, both front panels, and the 2 3.0 ports I have). I have the anker plugged into one of the working 2.0 ports and that seems fine for now but I had it on the 3.0s and it didn't work.

Do you have the ability to turn them on and off in the bios?

Bios says:

3.3V - 3.36
5V - 5.04
12V - 12.288

Not sure if I can turn on/off usbs. Would the port tester help? The powered hub is only connecting for data, so I would imagine the power from the usb ports on the mobo wouldn't matter?

The port tester tells you that the voltage is actually available at the port.

Does device manager show any problems?

I don't think that's it. I now have all my USB things on an Anker 7-port, and half my USBs on the system are still dead.

Yes, I think my mobo is defective. I was originally planning to wait for Kaby for the 270 platform so I'll limp along for a couple more months.
