USB port inactive after cold boot...

Hey guys, I have a little problem with my new comp. It's running great (well, except for crappy Leadtek 6800 GT OC but that's another story) but every time after a cold boot, my primary USB port appears to be dead. It's either completely inactive or it doesn't recognize the connected device. I have 3 USB devices connected to my mobo ports: MX510 mouse, Internet Navigator SE keyboard (both Logitech) and an all-in-one printer (HP). Regardless of what I connect to this one problematic port, mouse or keyboard, it's screwed after a cold boot. Once I disconnect and reconnect the device, it's recognized and running fine. What could be the reason? I know it might be a difficult question but maybe someone has encountered a similar problem on K8N-E.

jus installed my mx510 and after a reboot i was like WTF coz the mouse wasnt workin on the primary usb port......tho seems to have gona away for good now......i have the same keyboard too, and printer but the printer is shared on the network, and i havent put the keyboard in the usb port, coz i cant see the benefits of it

tho i havent had a cold reboot yet....i will only be able to tell u that in the morning

Thanks. I guess I'll just use PS2 for my keyboard since USB is not really beneficial in this case, as you said. Mouse is a different story - I'm a Q3 gamer and I want top performance here 🙂

I have an old ASUS CUSL2 MOBO with similar USB port probs.
Some work, some don't.
Some work with some devices but not others.
Using certain devices on certain ports is ok while other combinations of using the same ports results in non-working USB ports.

I found a combination that works and stuck with it.
ASUS tech support couldn't offer ANY help.
I added a USB hub to one of the working ports.

Good luck!

I've heard disabling the legacy usb option works well on this board for a problem similar to yours...Don't own one, and I can't verify what I said, but I suppose it can't hurt too bad if it doesn't work - just flip the option back 😉

Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. If it works, great. If it does not, no problem. I'm using a PS2 port for my keyboard right now. While I want my mouse connected to USB, in case of keyboard it doesn't really matter.

does the mx510 work better in USB or PS2? i have mine in PS2 right now with the sample rate at 200. when i have it plugged in the usb, sometimes it would freeze for a fraction of a second when the cpu is at 100%.

I have almost the same problem here, with a system I built for a client, based on the K8N Asus mobo. However, the mouse mostly works just fine, but after some restarts/coldboots it's dead when entering windows. I have disabled legacy in bios now, and are rebooting a lot to see if the problem has gone away. Otherwise I guess I'll have to RMA the mobo... (because this behaviour is not acceptable).

I'm actually not to fond of this K8N mobo so far, and I don't like the AMI bios...
