USB peer-to-peer file transfer?

I just bought a notebook PC (a bottom-end Dell Inspiron 1100) that I'll be using to collect digital photos on (several GB worth), while I'm vacationing. Afterwards, I'll need to get all the photos off the notebook and onto my desktop PC. The notebook lacks a CD-R drive, so I'm hoping to set up some sort of file sharing between the two computers so that I can just transfer the photos directly between them. I don't need any other networking features, just the file transfer. I want to spend the minimum possible, if I can, so I'm hoping that Windows XP has some built-in abilities along these lines...

So my questions:
1) Is it reasonably possible to set up two computers to transfer files over USB without losing hair over it?

2) If so, does Windows XP support it, and if so, how to set it up? (I have XP Pro on my desktop and XP Home on my notebook) If not, what software would I need?

3) If file transfer over USB isn't simple, does anyone have any other (cheap!) solutions to suggest?

Thanks!

Thanks, that ezlan page was very helpful. It seems like that USB cable will do the trick, but I'm tempted by the CAT5 crossover mentioned on the site. (I'm not against netwroking the two computers; I just didn't want to have to buy a hub (I didn't think of a crossover)).

Thanks again!
