USB over Ethernet??

I intend to buy the ATI USB TV tuner. But the cable line is downstairs and my computer is upstairs. The TV Tuner takes the coax cable line and tunes it and it puts out a USB connection that should plug into my computer. Is their any way to extend this to reach my computer which is upstairs via wireless or CAT5? I have both wireless and CAT5 networks available.

Is their any other way to accomplish this?

P.S. I am experiencing a self-imposed stint in the doghouse. I need to get my TV-fix through my computer. If I can get my TV and Computer to work together, I will never emerge from my hole 😉

If you're suggesting that you put a USB-ethernet adapter in between these things, I don't think that will work. You're talking about 2 entirely different signal types.

Is there a reason you can't split the coax and run it upstairs?

I know a simply usb to ethernet adapter will not work. Thats why I am asking here for possible solutions that are not too expensive.

I can run the coax to the other room, but its across the house and i dont want to pay the cable dude to run it...I suppose I could run it myself since the cable dude will just drape the dam wire down the side of my house and drill a big ass hole in through the brick wall. Man those basturds have no respect for my house. I wonder if they do that zhit in the burbs...

Do you mean send the the USB signal over cat5, or do you plan to hook it to another computer (downstairs) and have it send the TV signal upstairs?

If you have a computer downstairs you could hook the TV tuner to it and use Netmeeting to view the video on the upstairs computer. I don't really recommend that method but I guess it could work. If you don't have a computer downstairs then I don't think it is possible.

As vetteguy said, I recommend you just split it and run a coax cable upstairs.
