USB over Ethernet/VPN

I am looking for a solution to use a USB device on my local machine to go over a RDP connection via a VPN to a remote machine using Remote Desktop.

Basically, scan a bar code with a scanner connected to my laptop, have it write the output to the remote machine.

There should be a way for the remote machine to send traffic back to a separate USB device on the laptop.

A tall order. Anybody ever use such devices or software, or know of a good one?

Thanks!

Have you just tried it? In my experience most bar scanners just act like keyboards sending the text of what it read.

Otherwise try looking at AnywhereUSB

AnywhereUSB is compatible with bulk or interrupt type* USB devices such as bar-code scanners, printers, fingerprint scanners, mice, pole displays, card readers, flash drives, security keys, and more.

I'll second TheKub. All barcode scanners I've used really just act like keyboards and send characters, not even needing special drivers.

I know about the scanners, but I also have other USB devices to access as well.

Thanks for the link to AnywhereUSB. I will check it out.
