USB mouse with PS2 and serial adapter

I've got a friend that just bought a USB mouse and wants to connect it to a PC without a USB or PS@ port. He boight a USB-PS2 adapter and a PS2-Serial adapter.

Can this work?

I don't think so but try it, you won't break anything.

There were, and possibly still are, serial&ps2 mice, but they were wired to do both.
