usb mouse in windows 98

Hi there, I have a Microsoft Compact Digital Mouse, model 1016. It's very basic, it has 2 buttons and a mouse wheel.

I recently created a dual boot system on my laptop with windows 98 and windows xp. However the mouse doesn't seem to work in windows 98 at all. I've tried adding it manually with the "add hardware wizard" but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I vaguely remember having an awful lot of trouble installing mice on my parents old computer which also ran win98 a few years ago.

If anyone can tell me how to get it work I'd be very grateful!

Ok just an update. I still haven't managed to get the mouse to work. I installed the unoffical win98 SE service pack but no luck.

However, I did try to plug in my logitech G5, and that works flawlessly. Just a pity I don't have two. 😛

You don't? 😛 Maybe the mouse that you're trying to use isn't 98 compatible.
