USB mice hitch during HD activity

Do PS2 mice do this? I can't really remember, as I've been using the USB port for a few years. Even very brief hard drive access can cause the mouse to pause, and I think the SE Western Digital drives are even worse. StorageReview noted that they have high CPU usage.

Thoughts?

This is precisely the reason I do not use USB for keyboards and mice. I had a USB mouse for a while, but glitches like that annoyed me to no end.

We have dedicated ports for keyboards and mice, make use of them.

Plus with PS/2 you can use a 200 hz refresh rate.

My USB MS Intellimouse Explorer has never ever had a single issues, its never skipped or anything... its always been flawless. And I use all 4 of my USB ports, Mouse, Joystick, HP Deskjet, UPS Thermal Printer.

It's not skipping. It will pause when there is high CPU or disk activity, happened on a wide range of systems.

I've experienced this before. When I noticed it, my sound would also skip. (ie: Winamp)

I later found out it was the Promise ATA133 controller that was in a PCI slot that was conflicting with something else.

You're not alone! 🙂
