I don't think this would work. I know from experience that USB mice require Windows drivers, and they will not work in Safe mode, much less in DOS or BIOS setup.
This is the very reason my MS Internet Keyboard Pro has both PS2 and USB plugs. I don't think it is possible to even have USB only keyboard....in fact, I think the only reason my keyboard has a USB plug is because it has two USB ports.
If your motherboard bios has legacy USB support, then it'll let you use the keyboard in other OS. I know mandrake 7.2 can handle both USB mouse and keyboard at the same time. But you should Install Mandrake using that configuration. Changing it later is very tedious.
There is usually a BIOS setting to enable them. "USB Keyboard Support" or something of that nature, in Advanced Chipset Features. I'd imagine you'd have to use a regular keyboard to enable it, though. You'll have to experiment, I guess.
During the boot process, the legacy USB is automatically enabled in most motherboards. Thereforem you can get into the bios with a USB keyboard. Enabling legacy USB ensures that your keyboard will work in the OS. THe option is most likely to be in the Integerated Peripherals menu.
