I'm getting my grandpa a Dell laptop (Inspiron 1100), though he's probably going to need a keyboard. Do these work ok with USB keyboards, cause it doesnt have PS/2 connections? For that matter, what USB keyboard should I buy - everything from my usual brands (logitech and MS) appear to be PS/2 only.

A USB keyboard will work splendidly. Recommendation if you are interested in using a mouse also: get a USB keyboard with a built-in hub (Dell has several models like this): you can plug the mouse into the keyboard, so it only takes one "plug" to start up both (you can even hotswap).

Would this gamer keyboard work ok?

Unfortunately, I really need something fast and cheap. Don't care about quality of the keyboard as long as its as close to the standard layout as possible.

I haven't seen USB->PS/2 connectors. I've only seen the reverse, like those plugs included with logitech mice.
