usb keyboard problems

I'm having troubles w/ my keyboard, it's a gateway generic usb key with a built in hub...I load my drivers that i downloaded from the web site but the keyboard won't work, even after going into the device manager and checking, it reads that the driver is working..I run win 98se on my syst. my other usb devices (printer and scanner) work fine. I've tried other keyboards with the same results...
any pointers
