USB Keyboard - Could no install driver

Hi I have a standard keyboard which does not require any special driver, but when I plug it in the computer, windows starts to install the driver then says: "Windows could not install the device driver"

Iver tried many different things from uninstalling and installing the driver, to plugging it in different ports, uninstalling all other usb drivers and installing it again, hotfixes for win7 usb bugs, etc..

None of which solved my problem, still I got a keyboard which i cant use.

Does anyone know of what could possibly be wrong? Thanks.

Ive already heard of corrupt registry maybe, but Ive run many programs to fix the registry and found couple errors then fixed them but still couldnt get the keyboard to work.

So Im kinda running out of options here.

Thanks again, any input would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Ive also tried different keyboards and couldnt get them to work either, so its definitely my computer.

Also my usb mouse only works in 1 port, if I change it to a different port I get the same error (windows could not install the driver)

What motherboard and power supply do you have (full system specs would be nice unless it's a Dell/HP/etc)? I would try just installing the latest chipset drivers before doing anything drastic (full reinstall/etc).

What was going on when this problem started?
