USB key only works in back slots. Otherwise, "Device not recognized"

Hmm, I've got an MSI nForce2 K7N2G-ILSR board with an Antec LANboy case's front USB ports wired correctly and functioning with other USB devices.

Using my 64MB USB key in the front port makes XP pop-up a "USB Device Not Recognized" error while it works fine in the rear slots. Why? It is a USB2 device, but the cable to the front ports looks well sheilded so that shouldn't be a problem.

a few questions to possibly narrow down a probable source of the problem..

are your other "working" usb devices USB 1.1 or 2.0?
are your other devices bus or self powered?
do you have security enabled on your USB key?

I don't believe the key supports security because I have seen no such feature or option. The other devices are USB1.1.

I just got finished restarting and it works when I disable USB2.0 support in the BIOS.

Eh?

Could it be that you plugged a usb cable wrong by mistake?

I know how hard those little wired can be to connect easy to mix them up,I had to read my Asus manual and look at it & be carefull what wires go where.

My Antec case came the same way with a bunch of loose wires, maybe recheck your wires to see if you misplaced 1 in the wrong place?

Edit: I guess your device only works on USB 1.1 then. weird USB2.0 should be backwards compatible

It's working normally in high-speed (I think) mode on the rear ports. I think it's a cabling issue though I thought these were USB2.0 compliant headers...
