USB key not detecting properly on Windows startup

Howard

Lifer
I have Windows 7 64-bit. Recently (past 2 weeks maybe) my USB key hasn't been detecting properly after Windows boots up. It gives me the "USB device has malfunctioned" or some such error. When I unplug the key and plug it back in, it works fine until the next time the PC reboots or shuts down.

It's currently plugged into a USB hub but I've also used it in the front USB ports and the issue is the same.

Any clue? I don't think there's anything else wrong with this USB key otherwise.

I don't think so, but I'll check.

Oh, wait. My motherboard had to reload the BIOS from the backup chip a few weeks ago because I had a bad power failure... maybe the settings were reset. Good call!

No, but I did try another USB key I had laying around. That one worked fine. Looks like it's an issue with this key...
