Usb key boot problem

Hi,

I have a Compaq N400c laptop with XP Pro running. I wanted to try out linux without touching my xp partition. This laptop doesn't have cd-rom or floppy disk but, can boot from usb key. I got a privacy drive(1gb) to try linux out.
1) I created a bootable usb disk on the new 1gb drive in damn small linux and tried to boot with no luck(it just skipped detection and went to xp boot).
2)Then I created a bootable usb disk using my old cheap 64mb drive in damn small linux and every thing works.

Why doesn't my new 1gb usb key work? When I plug in my new usb drive and boot, it shows up in the bios as a usb hard disk. However, the computer never boots from it even if I make it 1st in the boot order? When I use my cheap 64mb disk everything works fine? What gives?

Later, I tried to boot my new desktop with the 1gb drive and it worked?
So why can my laptop recognize the 1gb disk but not boot from it while it can boot from the 64mb usb? I thought maybe it was a usb1.1 vs 2.0 problem but both drives show up as 2.0 drives in XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

CU
