I'm having a problem with the USB ports on my thinkpad. I think it lies somewhere in the power settings, but I'm not sure.. When the notebook is on battery power, devices plugged into the usb ports won't be detected (for example, my usb key). This sometimes occurs when it's plugged in, as well-- I have to plug the usb key into my desktop, and then the laptop for it to be detected. I've looked around thinkpadforums for this issue, but haven't found anything.. can anyone please help?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I've experienced the same problem.... though it generally seems isolated to various USB memory keys... I've had the problem both on battery and AC though it's not consistant enough for me to worry about. It happened on my T41p but not my T40, and it hasn't happened as of yet on my T42p.

A reboot with the device in always corrected the problem for me.

I'm tending to believe it's a software issue with the factory image rather then a hardware based issue.

thanks dan.. have you tried a fresh install of XP, or have you been using the IBM software? With most any other notebook, I'd do a fresh install, but IBM actually gives you some useful utilities..

I had the problem even after a fresh factory recovery. Due to the nature of my job and the client, I can't use out corp image on my system... long story.

You can build your own image, not sure if the key on the bottom of your TP would work for your copy of XP--why buy a new license right?

Most of the IBM extras are available right from thier website.... The only thing you might have a problem with is the bundled DVD player and burning software.

thanks for the info! I do have a copy of winxp unused right now that I might try to load later on, but I'll dig around IBM's website some more and see what I can find..

btw, how do you like your shuttle? I'm looking into building one, when funds become more available.
