USB is driving me NUTS!!!!!!!

Third day straight and I'm going nuts!!! I thought I had it going a few min. ago, I took out the sound card, modem, and DVD card, went in to safe mode and cleaned out all unused files, booted back up and reinstalled the VIA patches and fixes, hooked up my USB devices and they ALL worked. I have a printer, scanner, and camera that are USB. Then I thought I would reinstall the other cards 1 at a time and try to get it to work. The first thing I put back in was the modem. None of the USB devices worked. I took the modem back out and still nothing. I tried starting over and nothing!! I cleaned everything out AGAIN and nothing. It wont even display the box "windows has found new hardware" when I plug in the USB device. WHAT HAVE I DONE!! I can't get it to do anything now. HELLLLLLLP.

I have a abit KT7-raid, 1G thunderbird, 3com modem, matrox g400max, SB Live platinum, diamond DVD card
 
I tried that still no luck. But now its really screwed up. I went into BIOS and set it to fail-safe to see if I had screwed it up before. Now I have nothing at all no display no nothing. It's hard to do anything when there is no display. I don't know what to do now--any suggestions???
 
Well I am back in business (I think). I cleared the CMOS and it came back to life and the USB ports started working again. Am I doing something wrong or is my computer just messing up?
