USB Internet Connection Shared Via Wireless Router?

Hi there. Sorry if this thread is in the wrong section or has been asked a million times but as a newbie on the site I hope all will be forgiven 🙂

I have a 4G USB modem which I'd like to share over a wireless router I'm buying. I've been reading around and I saw that installing something like AnalogX proxy on the ''host'' PC and then configuring the other PCs on the wifi network with the proxy settings should work. Is this true and is this the best way or are there any other ways of accomlishing this task? I dont wanna buy a router and have dead weight on my hands. Also, how will I connect the router and what settings will be need to be changed?

P.S. NO I cant buy a router that accepts the modem directly.

Your help would greatly be appreciated.

Attach your 4G adapter to the PC/laptop that will be sharing the connection. Make sure the 4G connection is working.

Connect the same computer to your wireless router, either through a wired connection or a wireless connection. If you use a wired connection and want to share files between the "host" and other computers, do not use the WAN/Internet port on the router - only use LAN ports.

Log in to your router's configuration page and disable the DHCP service on your router.

Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the "host" computer and choose to share the 4G connection through the wireless connection. The steps for this are different depending on your operating system. Either reply with your OS version or do a Google search with "Internet Connection Sharing" and your OS version as the search terms.

Connect other computers to the wireless router.

If everything is configured properly, all computers that are attached to the router should be able to access the Internet through the 4G connection.

I'm gonna be using win xp on the host desktop though every other laptop used in my house runs Win7.

I'll try your solution on Monday and hopefully it'll work. Out of curiosity will I be able to block certain sites like facebook and youtube on all computers using your method because my blazing fast internet came with a painful data cap! The reason why the proxy method caught my eye was because I could block the bandwith guzzlers like youtube within the proxy app.

If you want to control bandwidth and access to certain sites, then a proxy server might be a better option. I haven't ever used a software proxy like AnalogX before so I can't give you much advice about which one will work best for you.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted as soon as I set up sometime tomorrow. Sorry for being soooo curious again..lol..but I'm just curious as to how that type of proxy server works how will it interact with my router etc..? Dont't be afraid to get technical because I'm a bit tech savvy 🙂
