USB internal card reader won't work in windows xp anymore

i have an internal usb card reader. it was working fine but once i rebooted the system, windows can't see the reader anymore. The only way for me to get it to work is to disconnect the usb cable from the computer case and reconnect it. it's suck a pain since i have to open my case.
