I just purchased the D-link DSB HS4 4-port usb hub. Plugged it in and it is now it is shorting out my system. How can I tell if it is a deffective hub or faulty wiring in my system?
This is what happens when I plug it in: (1) the DVD drive light comes on and stays on. No activity within the drive, the light (like its reading a disk) just stays lit, (2) the hard drive light comes on as well. And here is the best part. When I unplug the system (leaving the hub plugged in) the above lights remain ON! I discovered this when I wasn't able to shut down the system. The reset and power switches didn't work. You push 'em but nothing happens. I had to unplug it to restart the system. When I remove the hub everything works just fine. But now I'm wondering if something in my system could be grounding out the hub? or could it be a deffective hub?
System consists of: Athlon XP 1800 with 512 mb Crucial DDR Ram
Maxtor 30 gig HD
WD 30 gig HD
Win 2000 pro OS
Aopen 12x DVD
HP 9100c CD burner
Logitec Z-560 THX Spkrs
