Happen to pick up a slim labtop that comes w/ NOTHING!
so I need to get a ext. floopy drive and ext. CD, CDROM or DVD drive.

My question is...which device has better support under winME? (if I plug both drives into a Firewire hub or USB hub)

thanks,

i dont think either has better support under winme...

so the real question for you is:
-price of usb or firewire peripherals
-availability of WinME compatible drivers for usb or firewire peripherals

I have both types and have had no complaints either way. Im not a big WinME fan, but I haven't had any problems with it specifically related to USB or FireWire.

best of luck

thanks,

I am absolutely not a winME fan, but, that's how the labtop come w/ :(

Price is about the same between firewire and usb now...(I am buying the external enclosure for drives)
The concern I have is that I will have Floopy drive, CD drive hook up to the hub, and when I return home, I simply going to plug the connector from the hub to the labtop to save me troubles....

but will both drives show up? How about if I connect a external mouse to the hub?

All devices connected to the USB hub will show up at the same time. On my Belkin 4port USB, my MS Intellimouse Optical, Hauppage WinTV USB, and Visioneer 4400 USB scanner all show up. I haven't used the hub with WinME, only Win98SE and my current Win2k Pro.

Labtops have computing ability?

Laptops on the other hand. What Model lappy? Sony? Will you need the ability to boot from a CDROM?

Gunbuster:

Yeap, it is Sony SR17 w/ ME.
I don't think I would need to boot up from CD-ROM though...... but wouldn't regular USB CDROM bootable?
