Usb hub and mouse.

OK so my tower is kind of far away from my monitor keyboard and mouse and I was thinking of getting an usb extension cable for my mouse just so the cord isn't taking up half my desk. Then I saw that usb hubs weren't a ton more than extensions and since I only need about 1 foot extra I was think that might be the way to go. OK now for my question:

Would hooking my mouse (and possibly something else) up to a hub make it laggy and bad for gaming? Or should I just get the extension and be happy since I don't really need more hub ports?

If you go with a hub, your best bet is to use one that has it's own power supply. That reduces the chance of getting lag. Of course, if you connect other devices to the hub, having data move from those to the system at the same time might cause issues/lag.

If you don't need the additional ports, and only need a few feet for an extension, you should be able to get a cheap <3' USB extension cable to do the job.

I have my Microsoft mouse connected to a Belkin powered hub. There are three other devices connected to that hub and there is no lag at all with the mouse.
