So i got a logitech USB headset today! Sweet! but i cant figure out how to make it so that I don't have to Unplug the Headset to make my current speakers work (for watching movies/streaming video) I dont want to have to bend down and unplug this headset from the back of my machine everytime I go to watch a video. is there anyway to force XP home edition to use both? maybe a 3rd party program of some type? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! :)

EDIT:: also i am trying to avoid restarting my PC by any means, furthermore i've noticed my speakers will play system sounds/soundcard tests.

Thanks again for any help.

The short answer is no.

This is not a programed response to a driver setting, it is a hard-wired response built into the sound system. Does your case not have a headset port on the front?

If your case doesn't have a USB port on the front then i suggest getting a USB extension cable or a small USB hub so that you have easy access to your USB connections.

Right on! The "green" port on a sound card or laptop is where headp[hones go. That port receives a mini-jack, and when the jack is shoved in, a small metal contact shorts out the speakers that are on the same circuit. Headphones have worked that wey as far back as I can remember.

As was suggested, you will need a separate sound system for the speakers or the headphones (USB works well) for simultaeous sound casting. But, really - that sort of defeats the purpose of the headphones, no?

You could also connect your audio line out to an A-B switchbox that will let you hear, A, B or both.

No its only USB, no adapter. and i do have usb on the front, but when i unplug them i still have to restart my system so that i can use my speakers.

Corkyg, no, what i'm wanting to do is use my headphones for gaming, but when i switch to something like southpark studios i dont wanna have to unplug my headphones and/or reset my system to get the sound to play out of my speakers. furthermore the headset is usb and the speakers have the normal "green" mini jack plug-in.

Ok there is no need to restart the system after unplugging the headset. However you will need to go to the control panel and pull up the Sounds Properties. Assuming you have XP you'll see a tab there labled Audio. In that Tab you'll see drop down menus for the speakers and the microphone. There you will sellect your sound card after unplugging the headset. Or you can leave the headset plugged in and then select your onboard sound for the speaks in the sound properties. Each time you want to switch from headset to speakers you'll have to toggle which one the system should be using there.
