There's always a huge price premium for the USB ones.

I've heard that with USB, the signal is digital, vs. regular mic & audio jacks being analog.

Is this true, & if so, is there a large quality difference?

Most likely the quality difference is not noticable, and a USB mic will use up a physical USB port as well as some of the bus. I always recommend against USB headsets, personally.

Besides, if you're going to be doing stuff like gaming, the quality of the mic doesn't make a huge difference as quality is dumbed down to save bandwidth.

If you have integrated sound that's crap, USB headset wouldn't be a bad idea. Anything better should mean you should get a normal headset though.
