USB HD case question

Has anyone installed a 120 gig 5400 RPM laptop HD in one of the USB2.0 external cases?

I am having a bear of a time getting this one to be recognised. The device manager sees it, but drive managment does not. I thought it might be a problem with this system, so I tried it on my laptop with the same results.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Does any other hard drives work in that enclosure? Try to hook it up directly to the computer and see if the computer recognizes it then. What brand is the enclosure and how old is it? I've never had any issues with my computer recognizing 2.5" hard drives that use a 2.5 to 3.5 IDE adapter and my Adaptec enclosure.

Yes, I have several, and quite a bit of experience with these puppies. First and foremost, it will not usually run without a separate power connection. I believe that may be your problem.

I always buy external 2.5 cases that have their own 5 vdc power modules. Everyone of my 7 cases has a small power connection socket next to the USB ports.

Well, after some troubleshooting it appears that I have a bad case. I have an older one with a 16 gig HD in it, and swapped the drives. Both drives work fine in the older case(same type, no power cords), and neither works in the new one.

Guess Its RMA time.

I ordered a Sabrent Slim 2.5" USB 2.0 Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure - Black from NewEgg. I'll wait on the RMA to come from PCMicrostore and return it for a credit, or replacment.

Thanks all!
