I'm trying to get a new hard drive to work under Vista in a USB external enclosure. I have another hard drive that has worked fine in this enclosure, a Metal Gear Box. The new HD is a Seagate 500gb IDE (the enclosure is supposed to work with up to 500gb). When I plug everything in, the icon appears in the lower right of the taskbar and the hard drive appears in Device Manager under disk drives (correctly identified as ST350064 1A USB Device). But there is nothing new under Computer. I've tried all the different jumper settings with the same result for each.

Anything else I should try, or is this hard drive just not going to work in this enclosure?

Like PurdueRy said, go to computer management -> Disk management -> make the partition and format.

Yes - realized this just after I posted. Anyway, all's well now.

Thanks for the replies
