USB Gamepads for the PC

Was just browsing through GoGamer and saw a few games that were out on the consoles a little while ago that I never had a chance to play, and thought I'd pick them up for the PC instead. Since the games in question (right now the current Prince of Persia 2 and 3, maybe some other titles in the future) originally used an analog control scheme, I was thinking of picking up a gamepad that will work well with these games.

I haven't done any research yet, but something similar to the Xbox controller would probably work well for me, since it worked fine when I played through the first game on the Xbox. In fact, I just took a look and am considering the Xbox 360 Wireless USB controller for PC/Xbox 360. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Gonna have to second the 360 controller. Natively USB and a decent controller to boot. Go for it.

I'd go for the plain wired 360 controller unless you absolutely have to go wireless, then you should probably get the Charge and Play kit too, but then you're looking at almost $80 just for a controller and battery\charge cable.

Logitechs series of controllers are very good. IMO better than the controllers for both the PS2 and the Xbox.

Hmm. I'm still trying to decide between the wired and wireless... I probably won't need a wireless one for the PC, but when I eventually DO break down and buy an Xbox360, I'll likely get the Elite version (HDMI out FTW), and I'll probably want a pair of wireless controllers, not one wireless and one wired.

Course, then I'll have one white wireless controller and one black one. Damn.

So my question about the Xbox 360 for Windows pad: When you use it with the 360, does the Xbox pick it up automatically? It doesn't need the USB adapter, right? Then I can just leave that plugged into my PC.

They sell black wireless controllers too, so your controllers will match.

As far as using the controller with Windows, the 360 one and the 360 for windows one are the exact same. I don't know what USB adaptor you're talking of, the wired ones just plug into the USB ports. Now if you're talking about wireless controllers, then yes you can leave the wireless adaptor plugged into your computer, the 360 has its wireless receiver built in.

Can't find anything on an Xbox 360 Black Wireless Controller for Windows... I know they make black controllers for the 360, but no news on a black version that works for the PC.

Damn.

"Xbox 360" controllers for windows and for PC are the same. They work for both systems, wireless or wired. The only difference is the packaging and that the PC version ships with a driver disk. A disk of drivers that are automatically downloaded from windows update.

If you want black buy any black 360 controller you can find and it will work fine on your PC.

EDIT: Note that the wireless versions require the wireless PC dongle to work.

I think you meant "...for windows and for the Xbox 360 are the same." Since in this particular discussion, "Windows" and "PC" are interchangable.

That's the problem. I could go out and purchase a black Xbox 360 controller, but without the wireless dongle, it won't work on my PC. So I'd need the controller that's packaged with the dongle, and as far as I can tell, that's only available in white.

I guess it's really not THAT big a deal, but my PC case is black, and the Elite is black... so I figure a white controller would just look out of place.

they should sell the dongles seperately. there out to be a law :p actually it would be really nice if there was a standard that all wireless game controller manufacturers could use... too bad bluetooth is so craptastic for latency.
