Whenever i plug in a USB device, Scannner, Mouse, Keyboard, after 5 mins or so in windows the system hangs.
Sometimes i get a VxD error thing, and other time it just reboots the pc.
I thought this may be a IRQ Assignment problem with my GeForce and USB Conflicting, but i have no idea how to fix it.
If anyone can help please do, and guide me through exactly how to fix it, as im a newbie :).
Specs :
KT7-RAID - Athlon 800@1050
GeForce 2 64 Meg
SB Live 1024
256 MB Crucial PC133

Did you install the VIA USB driver 1.08?

<< Install the updated VIA / USB Filter Driver.

Please Note: There is some confusion as to whether or not the USB Filter Driver is required for Operating Systems other than Win95. The VIA USB filter driver is REQUIRED for ALL Windows Operating Systems, (Whether or not this driver is effective is another story). All information to the contrary is in error. The asterisk next to the USB Filter Driver on the recently revamped VIA Driver Page, refers to the fact that USB is only available on Win95 version B & C, not that the filter driver only applies to Win95 versions B & C.
In fact, according to the VIA FAQ , the VIA USB filter driver should NOT be used with Win95 revision B & C.

From the link above look down you will see this at that site(nearly half-way down)

<< You MUST install the USB Filter Driver This driver adds support for USB devices to all VIA chipsets. All Windows USB capable Operating Systems except Windows 95 B & C. For Windows 95 B & C, use the native drivers.

Could be,anyway install the USB driver 1.08,the 4 in 1 driver 4.29 is the best drivers for Win2000 however there have been mixed results some people have had problems, while with others it has solved problems, also try running at default speed see if this helps.

is it possible to work my way around this problem ? can I use a USB to Parellel cable to connect the camera ? wil it bypass the problem ? cos my computer freezes every time I try to install the web camera . Also I read that USB hubs use the IRQ 9 , though none of my PCI cards are using the IRQ 9 , but the ACPI is using that IRQ . is it possible to assign a different IRQ to ACPI ? kindly guide.

Mem told me your problem and I have had a similar problem with ym webcam and Win 98... I uninstalled the old drivers or anything drivers whicha re present, and then re-start your machine without the webcam plugged in. Then after you are booted up into Windoze :p check if any drivers are there for your webcam... if no then proceed to shutdown and then while the PC is off plug the webcam into the back of your PC and then start the comp up again. On loading up Windoze it shoudl say new hardware found and do as it says to install the thing.

Albert.

P.S If it does not work tell me and I will think of something else...
