USB flash drive not showing in windows XP 'my computer'

Suddenly my USB flash drive is not showing under My Computer on my office desktop (windows XP). It is shwoing under disk management but I cannot change anything in there. I think it happened after I copied some of the pictures from my old powerbook G4. It works perfectly on my windows 7 laptop but not on windows XP desktops in my office.
I quick formatted it (FAT32) using my windows 7 laptop and tranferred some data to it. Ity is working well with WIN7.

I don't know what has caused this. BTW I asked the network administrator in my office if there is any policy running which prohibits USB flash drives, but he said no.

Can some good soul help?

try it in another XP machine, if it works, reformat it in that machine as FAT32 and then see what happens.

Edit: pref one that is not at work, so there cannot be any group policy issues.

Thanks, I did the same and found that the problem is not with the USB but with my office desk top computer. I am not sure what the problem is. Tried to google and ended up with some info on MS website, about some hotfix for such a problem.

my verbatim tuff n tiny just did the same thing. worked great for a year, used it all weekend recently just fine... then i go to move a program and i got it off the one pc but when i go to put the key in the other pc there was no response from the computer. showed up in disk management but was not able to change any settings (all blank). did not show up at all in my computer. tried the key in 3 other computers all with the same result.

i emailed verbatim and told them my usb key is dead. they immediately gave me an RMA number and i just sent it in an envelope. 2 weeks later i have a brand new one that works.

Sometimes if there is a mapped drive on your work PC, WinXP will try to mount your USB drive to the same letter because it successfully did so before. When you are in Disk Management, you should be able to at least right click the partition or drive and assign a different letter to it.

I'm sure that if you can see Disk Management, you have enough rights to interact with it. Otherwise, they really screwed the hell out of permissions for your profile.
