USB Flash Disk not shown in My Computer

I got a USB Flash Disk from TigerDirect. When I plug it in to my WinXP Pro desktop, it gives the message about finding new hardware. When I go into My Computer it is not listed as anywhere. Also, when I try to use Save As from word it is not available. I also have a laptop running XP Pro and when I plug the flash disk into one of its usb ports it is instantly recognized and is available as an additional drive under My Computer or when using Save As. I took it to school today and tried it in one of their desktops running XP Pro and it was the same as with my laptop.

Are there some settings that I am missing that make this available as a drive I can save things to and open documents from?

Another thing that is strange is that if I open window explorer and type "J:" in the address bar as the drive, it brings up the flash disk and allows me to access anything saved on it.

I opened explorer, went to the 'View" menu and selected the 'Folders' option under the 'Explorer Bar' options. This split the explorer screen and showed all of the drives on the left side of the screen, including the "J" drive that doesn't show up anywhere else. I grabbed the J drive from the left and dragged it into the "I" drive on the right. Now the folder for J is always shown under the I drive whether the flash drive is pligged into the usb or not. It also shows the drive as an available with all the "Save As" options. Might not be the best way, but it hasn't caused any problems and at least I can use it on the desktops now. Hope this might help someone else.

I had the same prob with a Lexar JumpDrive 128. It worked fine when I plugged it into my Keyboard USB Hub. Also worked fine on my old 366PII Laptop. When I plugged it into a new 2Ghz WinXP Machine( USB2.0 Ports ) @ work, it was recognized as new hardware, but didn't show up in my computer . It was listed in the device manager as removable HD, but no drive letter assigned. I suspect now it is a WinXP USB 2.0 Driver Issue. See if you can plug a USB 1.1 hub into the machine and connect it.
