My wife has an older Windows 10 Asus laptop that had the sound chip go out on it. I know I can buy a USB DAC dongle that accepts a speaker/mic jack to plug in an external speaker. I'd like to find an all-in-one that does both so she could just plug/unplug one USB cable to move the laptop, and to keep it simple. I know I can buy a dongle and plug a set of speakers into that, I was just thinking something powered by USB would be enough, and I don't want cords all over running to a wall outlet etc.

Any suggestions?

As a simple starting point I searched on Amazon for USB Speakers. Lots are listed, many powered solely by the USB port. Some use a single cable from USB for power plus digital signals to be converted to audio. Some use separate cables for power from USB and audio from a sound jack. Some are a pair of speakers for stereo, some are in one box. You will not get super-quality sound from these, but I expect you know that. Read the descriptions carefully, because some in the list will NOT be powered from the USB port and will require a separate power "wall wart".

Yea I was searching and found a couple that will fit the bill. Initially it was confusing determining if they did indeed process the sound as well as reproduce it all from the USB port. I am not expecting much out of it, and I don't want to spend a lot on this project.
