USB External HD not showing up

WinXPSP2. The HD was originally the slave. Moved it to an external enclosure with the jumpers set to Master. Copied the files from there to my new HD in my PC. Deleted the files on the external HD. Went into Disk Management, did a quick format on the external USB HD and formatted it from FAT to NTFS. It shows up in Device Manager and Disk Management, but now it doesn't show up in My Computer. 🙁 Help.

Thanks

It's not a fresh drive. It showed up in My Computer when it had files on it. After the reformat, it doesn't show up in My Computer. When I plug it in windows finds it, tells me what kind of drive, and that it's ready to use, and it's listed under Disk Management, but still not in My Computer.

I know have you tryed doing what i said from disk MGT. You formated the drive which means it is clean and has no info on it. Which is y it is not being seen in My computer.

I went into disk management, and had it do a format, not the quick format I kept checking, then I gave it a drive letter and name. It now shows up under Hard Drives in My Computer. I'm not sure if that's where it's suppose to be or in some other subcategory but at least it's there.
I'm surprised at the number of google hits for this problem with what seems like a lack of simple answers.

it can be either under Hdd in my computer or Removeable storage drive or something like that. in the same place....
