USB External Drive annoyances

I have two annoyances with my 200GB SimpleTech USB 2.0 drive. These issues may have nothing to do with the drive hardware itself.

(1) When I turn on the USB enclosure (during a Windows session), a dialog box pops up and Windows searches the drive for either media or autorun info. How to turn this function off? I have to cancel it every time.

(2) All my USB ports are 2.0 but sometimes Windows tells me I have plugged the drive into a 1.1 port and I should switch ports. Happens maybe 50% of the time and it doesn't matter what port I use. Why would this happen?

(2) Don't know. I've found this to be more common when using anything that hooks up to the headers or to a hub, as opposed to the ones on the ATX I/O area.

(1) After it is hooked up and detected, go into Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and view the drive properties (right click on drive letter, click Properties). Click on the AutoPlay tab. For each content type, you want to select "Take no action."
