Two simple questions:

Suppose I have an old computer with USB 1.1 ports and add a USB expander card that is USB 1.1 and 2.0 compatable. Will the computer be able to use USB 2.0 peripherials?

What is the cheapest way to add a few more USB ports (Add-in card, switch to a USB keyboard, or what)?

If you are just looking for a few more USB 1.1 ports, then you can get a powered 4 port hub for less than $20 and plug that into one of your existing ports to get 5 ports instead of 2. If you want USB 2.0 compatibility, that requires an add-in card which will cost a little bit more. You can get a USB keyboard for its extra ports, but they are usually unpowered, so it cuts down a little on your versatility.
