USB ethenet adapter question

RU482

Lifer
At work, we have a tablet PC that uses a docking station to provide an ethernet connection. The ethernet device in the dock is a USB to ethernet adapter.

I noticed that for each docking station I plug this tablet into, it recognizes each USB-ethernet adapter as a new/different connection. example: plug it into the first dock, it shows up in Windows as Local Area Connection 1. Plug it into another dock, it shows up as Local Area Connection 2. So on and so forth.

I assume it behaves this way because each USB to ethernet adapter has both it's own unique USB ID and a unique MAC address.

My question is....IS there something that can be done in Windows (7 or XP) that will allow me to plug the tablet PC into any dock, and have it recognize each one as "local area connection 1"?

I suspect no, but would like confirmation.

Thanks!!!

The number of the connection does not mean that you have other connections.

It is an ID number it can be instead connection Jill, John, or Harry.

I.e., it is functionally meaningless.

unfortunately, the software that my customer is using looks at this.

Somehow, on another computer, they have managed to prevent the OS from incrementing the USB-LAN connection ID.

It's probably poorly written software (3rd party app), but their obviously must be a way to make the network connection # not increment.

anyone?

Hard to help with no information about what the tablet is, but there is sometimes a setting in to BIOS for this. On Dells it is often called "Dock Universal Connect" for example, that does exactly that.
