USB Driver Install Help

I'm trying to fix a Dell XPS 410 desktop. It had a "keyboard failure" error and it seems to have messed up the USB drivers. When Windows XP loads it prompts for the drvers, but the keyboard or mouse will not work. There are no PS/2 or serial connectors on this computer, only USB. I've tried Safe Mode but the same problem exists there as well.

Is there any way that I can install the USB drivers w/o use of the keyboard or mouse? Can I use something like Ultimate Boot CD?

Thanks

Do you have all the requisite SP's installed?

yes, i believe it has sp3. just seems like the keyboard error wiped the usb drivers.

Does the Keyboard work during Bootup(before Windows)? If yes, try to Boot into Safe Mode. If no, check BIOS for a USB Keyboard Enable/Disable setting, then Boot into Safe Mode. Install Drivers in Safe Mode.

Doh, just re-read and see you've tried Safe mode. A complete Windows Re-install or Repair might be needed...I suspect something may have happened on the Motherboard though. Something that's fatal to your USB functionality. Have you tied different USB ports? That may not do anything, but is worth a shot.

Any possibility of borrowing and using a pS/2 keyboard/ That would give you back some control.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. the computer though somehow works now with the keyboard the owner was using. it wouldn't work with any of my keyboards though, and the fact that there are no ps/2 ports had me searching for other usb keyboards. i had initially thought there was a problem with the board as well, but it seems to be working now. i've never had something like this happen before, it's a first.
