USB drive problems . . .

Howdy folks,

Ive been running into several problems with my usb drives from seagate to generic ones. I load files and whatever onto the drives and later when I plug them in to transfer files or retrieve them . . . . a popup comes up indicating that the drive has not been formatted yet. One of the drives, I tried to format and it wouldn't go through. Any suggestions? Happy Friday folks!

This is just a shot in the dark and I might be way off, but have you tried plugging the drive into the back of the PC? I believe that sometimes the front USB ports only use USB 1.1 and not 2.0. Maybe that's your problem. You might be able to change the USB settings in the BIOS.

Again I'm just guessing but it's worth a try I suppose if you haven't tried it yet.

What OS are you running?

Could try updating the BIOS?

Are you trying these drives from a laptop or desktop? You may need one of these USB 'Y' cables to provide more power.
