USB Drive not working after Linux...

I used my USB Drive on my linux install and I no longer have my linux install. Now everywhere I use it it says that the drive is unformatted.

Is there anyway to the data off of there. It has my O2007 Beta Product Key, my Reports for school etc...

Did you format the drive in Linux?
Can you plug the drive into a Linux machine and find out if that machine and read it?
Do you have current backups?

Oh dear... sounds like FAT is screwing up again 🙁

Run chkdisk or other utilities on it to examine the filesystem.

great contribution to the thread

try out a live cd, like knoppix. That may be able to read off the drive and then you can save it to the hard drive

Thanks, I completely forgot about a LiveCD.

The USB Key was my backup drive. I felt no need to backup my backup.

Is there a Filesystem that you guys would suggest other than FAT for a USB key. It is a 2 Gig drive so it isn't too small, but I know it falls far short of the generally accepted requirements for NTFS. IIRC I think it is using FAT16, would FAT32 help at all??

Thanks for the help guys!

FAT is FAT, whether you're using 16-bits for or 32-bits for the FAT is irrelevant. And sadly FAT is the only real option if you want it to be usable in just about any OS.
