USB drive killing my peripherals?!?

Ok so i finished building my computer yesterday, i immediatly put my usb pen drive in the front usb ports then nothing, i thought maybe the usb drives werent working, but i check the flash drive on another computer and no response, i assume this just died on its own

Then the next day i foolishly plug my mx518 mouse into the same usb port for it also to die, no response, no nothing, its dead

so is my usb front port killing all my peripherals?, its really annoying, is there anyway to fix these peripherals?

You probably hooked the front USB ports up wrong, and they're now toasting stuff. Check the details ... pinouts may not be as compatible as they look.

Pin Name Cable color Description
1 VCC Red +5V
2 D- White Data -
3 D+ Green Data +
4 GND Black Ground

Agree with Peter - if you put the pin 1 in either position 2 or 3 you will fry your gizmos. The other possibility - more remote, is that the +5 VDC connection on the mobo is way out of control.

you were right the pins were plugged in incorrectly

im still not going to try those USB ports, i just dont trust them

its too late for my mx518, but can you reccomend me a mouse?
