usb drive bent

So i got a 32gb usb drive that has the male end bent, so the 4 pin usb is broken off the circuit board. Should I just hot glue the stuff so it doesn't move or find someone to solder the 4 pins back ?

You could. But since you, of course, have backups of everything on the drive, throwing it out and getting a new one is probably your easiest option.

(In fairness, 32GB drives aren't quite as disposable as the 4-8GB drives I have coming out of my ears...)

Soldering the four pins back is probably the best option, but if it'll work for a little while with the hot glue, that'll be easier to DIY and you can get your data off of it before you throw it out.

its empty, i dont even use it.. i just got it out of the rubber enclosure today after like 2 years but i figure i can at least use it as a drive wipe boot disk or something.. ill try to find someone to solder it, and prob put hot glue on it too.. lol

you guys seen one of these for sale ? i would love to add this to my collection..

Really? Oh wow! I never new something like that existed. What's the proper name for it? Can I buy one on Ebay?

Edit- Just looked on Ebay for USB chip reader and didn't find anything.

Hot glue will be of no help at all. There is no substitute for soldering. Any electronics repair technician, such as one who repairs TVs or audio equipment, can do the job.

You should solder out all these pin but with great care only if the four pins are on the upper layer of the board as circuit are made up of 2 to 4 layers

Hopefully i can find a guy that'll do it for less than a new 32gb one..

I can't find that usb chip reader anywhere.. will keep looking

i rather get it repair, i already have a bunch of other 32gb and 64gb usbs.. so one day, some guy will do it for a beer or something 🙂

I had a naked thumbdrive a while back which had this issue of the pins detaching. It even lifted the PCB traces and created a small gap which luckily tore before it did some real damage. Used a soldering iron and bridged the traces and some of the pins with solder and it worked.
