Hey guys, first and foremost, I read the description of this forum and it said to "stay on
topic" with general computer hardware, so by interpretation of it I posted here, but if
it offends anyone than I will gladly post elsewhere, but for now, I ask for guidance on
a digital voice recorder.

As you the title reads, I am of course looking for a USB voice recorder, that is a must.
I did some research of course(wouldn't post without doing it), and I like the Olympus, haha, nothing against Sony or other brands, but I will stick with them unless there is better "bang for buck" .... but it comes to these: DS-2, VN-960PC, DM-20, and WS-200S.

Basically it will be used for recording lectures and memo's. It must be USB, and it must have decent sound quality(which shouldn't be a problem nowadays). I don't need anything fancy, just something that'll do the job, thus it does not have to be expensive.

Does anyone have a particular recommendation or first hand experience, the DM-20 catches my eye because of its low price, but the DS-2 does have some nifty technology supposedly(DSS voice recording, and good LP time)? I'm open to other brands as well, but as long as it has the basic features listed and isn't more than $100(real price, retail is bs),the less the better.

thanks in advance, and sorry in advance if I need to move my post. either way, you guys rock.

thanks for the feedback, I already put this into consideration but music is completely out of the question. I'm purchasing this for my father, a very old man, who does not listen to music much, and will be using this to record himself in his own lectures as well as his own memo's. He actually has a very expensive sony pocket cassette recorder from the mid 90's, just under $300 I believe from then, stereo recording, but technology has progressed to a much higher level from then(plus its starting to eat tapes once and a while). I would even say my pda has better recordings than that cassette recorder. With the usb function all his material can be archived into the hard drive.

Anyways, I have to call the shot on this one within a day by now, so I guess I'll just go with a DS-2, though I'm worried the "complexity" of the interface that I have read about in one review may not be too suitable for my dad(he can barely program the cellphone). Does anyone hae
