USB digital microscope vs DSLR with microscope adapter

Good day,

I've been doing phone reviews for phones released by local brands in my country for some time now, and I would like to invest in a USB digital microscope or DSLR with a microscope attachment so I can photograph the pixels on the screen so I can provide a more objective analysis in my reviews.

I take it that USB digital microscopes are cheaper, but I'd rather purchase DSLR instead so I can use it for other purposes. The only problem is getting the right adapter and lens for photographing tiny pixels on smartphone screen these days. I'm not exactly sure which to get since the adapter and lens for the camera may be too costly. I'm new to the DSLR scene and choosing my camera inadvertently dictates the lenses I can use. I do not have experience and knowledge of the most versatile lenses available.

The DSLR I'm planning on getting is a Canon 650D, Sony A58 or a used Panasonic GH2 since I would also like to try my hand at amateur video production. I've heard great thing about the GH2 with third-party firmware for video.

Your expert input and suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. Does anyone know a cheaper alternative to a photometer for measuring screen brightness and contrast?

Do you already have a microscope? If so, please describe it so we can suggest possible ways to connect it to a suitable camera.
